Not entirely, no. It's a small part of the equation, how can it not be?
The kid has had absolutely zero gp since the WJC and somehow has risen in the rankings, how else do you make that make sense other than the lack of a better option.
Look, I think Schaefer is a legit top.....6 or 7 prospect in this draft. He's a good player but his inflation to the top of the draft rankings is ridiculous. There's nothing to back it up other than bullish attitudes from scouts.
Youre telling me Schaefer is better than the top performing draft eligibles this year without playing a single game post WJC?
I'd be mighty insulted if I were Misa or Hagens or Martone or Frondell (who incidentally got over his own serious injuries to earn his draft stock).
I'm still of the opinion Schaefer's draft stock is a market manipulation from Canadian hockey. Even as a great D prospect, theres no player that's missed 2/3rds of his draft season and RISEN to top draft pick. It reeks of preferential treatment.
