Weegar is our best offensive defenceman and sure he turns it over but so do the best in the league. Makar is paired with Toews. Hughes is paired with Hronek.
Weegar will make mistakes, Parekh will make mistakes, but they will also create a lot of offence and they would become our 2 best skating defenceman on the team immediately.
Having a partner who can cover the entire ice is important, just as much as they give you the outlet to make plays.

I’m pretty sure Makar and Hughes were paired with more defensive minded partners at the start. Think it was Graves with Makar and Tanev with Hughes. It was a few years later when Makar and Toews got paired together and Hughes and Hronek were paired together. Both players came to their respective teams in a trade.
I agree with you that eventually the Flames would like a partner for Parekh that compliments his game but I can also see the reasoning to have him paired up with a defensively responsible player as he begins his career. Someone who can cover up his rookie mistakes while still allowing him to play to his strengths
