I don't see why he won't play: if they're fighting for a playoff spot, it will be important experience for him and if they're out, it'll be an extended training camp before the rust of summer hits.
Interestingly, there were some legitimate questions whether Makar would play during the 2019 playoffs, as it meant he would have to be protected in the 2021 expansion draft. The Girard injury likely sealed it.
