Yeah the “huge conflict of interest” (or appearance of) only exists because conservatives have become inappropriately obsessed with demonizing and underfunding Canada’s public broadcaster in favour of more American, and specifically more American Republican media.

It’s a little rich isn’t it? Attack the CBC, and then cry “conflict of interest” because you’re actively trying to make it difficult for them to remain unbiased and how could they possibly report on you fairly while you’re attacking them. Meanwhile, nary a mention of the fact that the National Post, the Herald, the Journal, and the Sun, aka the largest network of Canadian newspapers, are owned by American Republicans. Deep dives into whether certain articles are on the first page or second page of the CBC and why, while Postmedia, with a mandate to be “more conservative” and led by former editors of far right publications like the Western Standard, publishes stories questioning whether Canada even deserves to be a country.

Carney’s solution is, as usual, the correct one out of the given options. Ensure the CBC is not subject to the whims of the ruling party. Canada needs truly Canadian views and content represented.
