I don't know if I agree with the idea that this is related to class. When students are working, they can cover that rent/food each year, and the schooling itself is the same cost. If the argument is that there are better uses for that money, or it's expensive when you're factoring in cars and things like that, I'd agree. But a student who works for 4 months a year and part-time for the other 8 should be able to make $10-15k.
