He didn't accept mediocrity. He rewarded that dressing room by standing pat and seeing if they could make a run. Punting the season and telling those guys "hey, good effort so far, but we're going to trade some big parts of this team" is an absolutely brutal look.
If not for the Blues ridiculous streak, the Flames are right in the mix with a 50/50 shot of making it.

I agree with this. 24-25 Flames are a textbook bubble team. The thing you have no control over is when there's only one playoff spot up for grabs and one of the other bubble teams you're fighting against goes on a 10-game (and counting) win streak.
