Flames control their own destiny though because if they win out get to 100 points they are obviously going to pass someone.

That’s not what controlling their own destiny means. Minnesota can get to 102, St.Louis 101 and Calgary 100. Calgary also doesn’t hold any tie breakers. You could say the reverse of what you just said that if Minnesota wins out they control their own destiny because they are obviously not going to be caught. Then repeat for St.Louis. Those two are more true than the Calgary version.
