Flames definitely went where other folks didn't- US (in general), NCAA ranks, Europe etc. Flames were a big team back then but weren't afraid to draft small etc
Oilers-*spits* credit where some is due was basically the luck of getting 99 and a 3 year draft period (and that was mostly 79-80) where they nabbed a ridiculous haul
the Flames just kept cranking it out all decade. first 8 years in Calgary MacInnis, Vernon, Makarov (12th round), Hull (6th round), Nieuwendyk- 5 HOFers, then throw in Loob, Konroyd, Quinn, Bradley, Roberts, Ranheim,Suter (9th round), Fleury (8th round), Matteau and the college FAs Otto, Macoun, Patterson etc- it almost was too easy
