Flames have probably traded more high end players than any team in the league the last two seasons. They have 4 firsts the next two drafts and 20M in Cap space.
They did not go all in to make the playoffs, not even close.

The Flames also have the second most cap space behind Columbus, and, but for, the unfortunate Gaudreau incident, the Flames would have the most cap space in the league, by 1.96 million.
Just think about that for a moment. There are teams that are losing huge amounts of money, play to less than half arenas. And the Flames are spending millions of dollars less per year to be competitive than those teams.
The Flames are only about $6 million per year above the cap floor at this point. Financially anyways, the Flames are literally doing the least, out of any team in the NHL, to win.
