The worst possible outcome would have been for the team to totally suck, with no promising seasons from the young players, yet somehow manage to finish 11th by winning the last game of the year.
That isn't even close to what happened. The Flames were much better than expected. Zary and Coronato had great years. Kadri and Huberdeau have turned themselves into very valuable assets. Bahl was found money. Wolf is an emerging star. The prospect pool is on fire, and we had 8 prospects with an NHLe over 30.
The only reason the Flames aren't going to be in the playoffs is because STL has won 9 games in a row.
