I don't know how many times this has to be pointed out but once again they went into the season with literally the least amount of cap possible as they were at the floor.
Right at the FLOOR. They literally couldn't spend any less on the team than they did.
They also had a rookie starting goalie and a career back up in net. On paper only two proven top 4 defenseman and a bunch of young guys or waiver pick ups.
And ZERO elite forwards.
They didn't try to be competitive, it just happened
