There might be a push. But 35 per cent support is a long way from the 50+1 that would be needed to win a referendum. And that’s before we’ve even hit the stage where businesses threaten to relocate, First Nations weigh in, etc. Having seen it play out a couple times in Quebec, it’s a long, fraught process, and not something that a government can just spring on the electorate.
