I read a few months back on the two new airliners.
I've been waiting in anticipation for the A380 for years, I still have the Airways magazine talking about the "new" A3XX. I think that it'll be an amazing flight, and a joy to ride on.
The 787 I don't know as much about but it is definately targeting a different market. If both companies have happen what they want to happen with their planes, what you'll end up seeing happen is 787's will fly passangers from major intracontinential airports such as Dallas-Fort Worth to LAX, then transfer those passanger for intercontinental flight such as from LA to Toyoko.
Don't expect to see a Calgary-Toronto flight with an A380. It won't happen (not in the near future anyway). Only domestic I can see with the A380 would be in the US for airports such as, and only inbetween, LAX, O'Hare, and JFK (the biggies, mind you there are some other major airports IIRC Dallas, has an insane amount of passangers go through it, and Atlanta's has the most in the US).
I can't wait for the 737 to be replaced. Very popular, but my sweet surrendering slothballs the airpressure in them licks my bag!
