Practice Notebook - 26.03.25

Flames captain Mikael Backlund was one of the handful of skaters on the ice Wednesday morning, as he continues to work his way back from an upper-body ailment that's kept him out of the last six games.

Head Coach Ryan Huska admitted he was unable to provide a firm update on Backlund's progress, but hinted that everything is 'trending in the right direction' with respect to his captain's recovery.

Zayne Parekh just had a generational D+1 season in the OHL

As if Parekh’s historic 96-point season during his draft year wasn’t enough, he somehow managed to take another step this year. As a quick reminder, his 96 points were the third most by a draft-eligible defenceman in OHL history and the highest such total in 34 years. This season, he became just the 10th defender in league history to hit 100 points in a season.

Flames Mailbag: Could top prospect Parekh join Calgary's playoff push?

With the vibes high, the Flames enter a new week four points back of the rolling St. Louis Blues for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. With this fight set to come down to the last few days of the season, we’ve got plenty to dive into in our latest Flames mailbag.

Half Man, Half Amazing

Cardiac? Probably.

Kad-iac? ABSOLUTELY.

Nazem Kadri helped will the Flames to yet another dramatic win, scoring twice - including his second overtime goal inside a week as Calgary knocked off Seattle 4-3 in dramatic fashion inside the Scotiabank Saddledome Tuesday night.

If the Flames don’t retain their free agents, what would they lose?

In the midst of a playoff race for the Calgary Flames, we are a few weeks away from a good chunk of Flames players’ contracts functionally ending. There are seven Flames who could test unrestricted free agency after this season who are on NHL contracts.
