With Chychrun off the board, and Ekblad getting suspended for performance enhancers, Pionk is the best untarnished defender available--and he may still re-sign with the Jets.

Andersson's value at the draft, oddly enough, could be the highest it's been, particularly with where prices were at this past trade deadline. If a team wants a top pairing right shot defender, he'll be the guy.

I'm not sure Conroy will be bold enough to trade him though, unless Rasmus' demands are way out of line.
After trading Markstrom, I do not believe there is any issue with how bold Conroy may or may not be. Conroy is showing he has a plan and he likely has a number for making the decision to sign or trade Andersson. They will likely have a serious conversation at the end of the season about next steps and either lay the groundwork for an extension that both parties can work with or set the stage to work on the trade.

Then you look at the RD depth chart:
Weegar
Andersson
Pachal
Miromanov
Parekh
Brzustewicz
Mews

That group is definitely better with Andersson, at least for a couple of years while Parekh and then Brzustewicz establish themselves.

Moving to Weegar, Pachal/Miromanov, Parekh would be tough but it would open the door for Parekh to start on the third line until he can take the second pair spot away. Also, Team Tank would be drooling over this D group and how it is almost guaranteed to get us a top 5 draft pick.... just like how we thought we were going to draft in the top 5 this season.
