They can make a total of 4 regular recalls from the AHL after the trade deadline, and unlimited emergency recalls. They can only make an emergency recall if an injury drops their roster below 12 forwards, 6 defencemen, or 2 goalies.
Because of Backlund's injury, they may have been able to classify Hunt's recall as an emergency. If they could, they still have 3 regular recalls left (Klapka being the first of 4). If Hunt's wasn't an emergency, they have 2 regular recalls left.
In the playoffs, the rule changes slightly, where you can make an unlimited number of regular recalls, but can only have 4 recalled players on your roster at a time. This only applies if your AHL team is still playing. If their season is done, you can have as many Black Aces around as you want.
This limit only applies to AHL recalls, you can also bring in players from junior or college once their seasons are over if they are under an NHL contract. For example, if Saginaw or Shawinigan get eliminated from the playoffs quickly, Parekh and/or Gridin could potentially be brought in to bolster either the Flames or Wranglers.
