That's the biggest weakness, I find, in tracking ‘high-danger’ scoring chances. There's no upper limit to the weight class, so to speak. When a player gets a shot from ‘home plate’ with no teammate in front of the net, that, as I understand it, is a high-danger chance. When he gets the shot through traffic with a man parked outside the crease to deflect the puck, that's also a high-danger chance. And when five Oilers swarm into the corner, leaving an opposing player all alone in front of the net to pose for a ‘This Guy Scored’ picture… that is a high-danger chance.

I wonder how much the stats could be improved if they added a fourth category, for clean breakaways and other situations where there is no defending player to help the goalie. Call it ‘unopposed scoring chances’ or something like that.
