This is the problem! Too much pressure from above to keep the team competitive every year. They lucked out by having a few top 10 picks turn out (Monahan/Tkachuk and Bennett to some degree) and having Gaudreau come at the same time. This allowed us to have a young core to build around without completely bottoming out for Top 3 picks.
For our current team we sold to some players still on the team we were going to be in the playoffs each year so ownership needs to convey a new message and if they don't like ship those players out. The Flames solid group of young talent coming up but aside from Parekh (Not proven yet) and Wolf we don't have an elite skilled forward (Center). This year we rewarded the team who put in lots of effort but it's been shown we lack skill (especially in 3 on 3) and need to commit to a full rebuild. The problem though is how do you do this with Wolf now you're starting goalie
