You never, ever, ever trade away an elite goaltender.
We've planning well for the build. We have the goalie already and he's just entering his prime. Goalies often take the longest to develop, and I think Wolf has yet another level.
We have a glut of exceptional defense prospects, many already playing in the AHL, and they take the second longest to develop. They'll be here soon.
Then you have forwards, and they peak the soonest. We have a few interesting prospects, but we really are going to reap some talent in the next draft or two.
Then all the players you drafted reach their peak at the same time, and you become an elite team for about 5-10 years depending on management and coaching.
But you don't give up the elite goalie. That's probably the hardest piece to find. See: the Flames in the Monahan/Gaudreau era.
