The Youtube Infographics had a segment with an example of what it was like for an average German in the 1930s. Some of the parallels with what is going on in the U.S. are unsettling.

In particular, the fear people had for losing their jobs if they didn't tow the party line, attacks on the press, what they would have considered "DEI" hires at the time, promoting alternative health ideas, and so on. Not everything draws parallels, but enough that it is concerning. The Nazis didn't go from zero to full on war and genocide. There was a build up that eased people into it.
