I could see a real possibility of a military professional risking treason to stop the insanity. Maybe I'm naive, but I don't think the US Forces would fall as easily in line as they did in Russia, which was an already established dictatorship.

Trump has already begun to purge anyone who isn't a loyalist within the government and the military. Swaths of conservatives are calling Mark Milley a traitor, for example.
When the state apparatus is nothing but loyalists, illegal commands will be followed.
