What about offering a cabinet role to an unelected former CPC leadership runner Jean Charest?

You can explain to us how this makes sense?
I mean, I'm not the one making these moves. There are plenty of moves available to Carney that would be neutral and make complete sense where I am even contemplating voting Liberal. And I also like Charest.
Oddly enough, for some reason I find that CBC has been more harsh than I would expect on Carney being a Liberal (they were especially harsh on the Brookfield HQ move).
No, Mendicino as chief of staff which is apparently transitory only isn't going to move needles in itself.
Charest is absolutely despised in Quebec, and offering him a position as a cabinet minister would have seriously hurt the Liberals in Quebec for no reason other than hope it may push moderate conservatives to the Liberal side. Carney should be thankful Charest turned it down, as that would have been explosive and backfired.
These are just unneeded own goals and unforced errors.
