It's how the Stars became as good as they are. But they also were missing the star center and loaded up to trade for Rantanen. They can beat anyone this year, but things change next summer. Johnston, Rantanen and Oettinger are all making a ton more next year. If Seguin comes back, they don't have much room to keep guys like Duchene, Granlund, Benn. The following year they have Harley and Roberston to sign. This is the issue with the Dallas Stars model and why drafting an elite center make life easier.
Colorado just loads up every year and can do it year after year because they have MacKinnon and Makar.
Flames need to draft Dallas good a few times to be as good as they are, they also attract players and we don't.
