The deal wasn't bad it is just feels like a weird trade though for a team that is in a win now type of environment. They have always seemed to lack a little bit of the elite level players who would be able to push them over the hump and it seemed like they had that in Rantanen (even if he didn't perform up to those expectations initially).
I guess it is hard to say but what would Necas have been able to return next year at the trade deadline? I just happen to think that a futures move makes the most sense in the long term but I thought that their window was now not in 4-6 years from now.

As bizarre as it was the GM admitting they missed on deals because they spent their whole time working on the Rantanen deal.
They probably are going to spend those picks. I guess we will see what happens.
The team and organization must be fuming at Rantanen holding out until the last minute to let them know he wasn’t signing. It’s his right to pick but he could have told them much earlier.
