I just don't see the high end forward talent in the projected roster needed to br a contender.
Maybe coronato or gridin or someone becomes a superstar but its not apparent yet.

Of course there isn’t - they aren’t even 24 months into this rebuild. I doubt any of the forwards they drafted will sniff the NHL in the next two years, and William Stromgren isn’t about to turn into Matthew Tkachuk either.
Right now, the Flames are being carried by a rookie goalie, and a bunch of veterans who, across the board, are getting more ice time than they would anywhere else in the league.
Kadri - 34
Huberdeau - 31
Weegar - 31
Coronato - 22
Coleman - 33
Zary - 23
Backlund - 35
Nobody is playing at even a 0.8 PPG pace.
This is about as good a season as this “core” is ever going to be able to muster. Not when more than half will be 34+ next season.
There is still all kinds of time for the bottom to fall out on them.
Particularly if Wolf is out for any length of time.
I think it’s quite unlikely they take a step forward next year. Even the Johnny Flames drafted 6th overall after making it to the 2nd round, and trading for Dougie Hamilton.
So be patient - enjoy this for what it is - a chance for a few more playoff memories at the Dome.
