I did think they would supplant the current roster with some NHL depth because they've got nothing down the hall at the Wranglers. Prices too high clearly. Would be really nice if we had Mantha coming back.
For the vets, though, not surprised they didn't get touched. Anyone who wanted out had all of last season (post Heritage Classic) and last offseason to express their desire to leave, and Conroy would've made it happen.
Those that didn't want to leave all had chats with Conroy and committed and made it clear they wanted to be here coming into this season, even though maybe it was going to suck.
You've heard over and over how well the Flames treat players and their families. It's something the organization has done for a long time, but renewed focus on it during this rebuild, so when the new building opens, they will be well positioned to attract players for a number of reasons.
The straight up nature of Conroy's approach with the vets plays into that same attitude. If the players have committed to playing here when they could've bolted, and they are wanting to succeed here, he's going to hold up his end and not shop them around either.
It's going to be a tough road to make the playoffs. 20+ games to go and a lot can happen. We will see who now steps up. Goaltending been great. Defense been decent on the backend. Kadri and Huberdeau driving the play up front. That has to continue, plus maybe a bit of luck to get that extra point or win here and there.
