The plan is to put their best foot forward.
When they have players like Andersson who are expiring, they will make a good faith effort to keep them, because a small market Canadian team cannot just let home grown Swedish national team defensemen leave if they want to stay at a reasonable number.
The players that are sold will be sold for a good return.
I would guess that a few guys could see the writing on the wall for what this team’s ceiling is, and quietly request moves in the summer, when there will be more cap space and a guy like Kadri will have a mere 4 years left on his deal.
They have an elite goalie. They are not going to be able to tank the way we thought they were. The good news is, they drafted a player who should’ve gone top-2 at 9.
They’ll be in another quasi platoon situation next year with Cooley, and injuries are always a possibility - an injury to Wolf and I’d guess they fall like a rock.
As long as they’re the lowest payroll team in the league, what else can they do?
They can’t lose on purpose or start Vladar 70% of the time.
