TBH it's just bad GMing.
As a fan I'll never get why GMs do the "I need a specific piece back for the asset I'm selling thing".
Get the best possible return for what I'm trying to move and then if you need to use those assets to go get another piece then do that.
I used this analogy yesterday but it's trading in your car. You're not going to get best value for your Audi if you try to go trade it in at the Ford dealership.
Sell your car privately and then use the money you get to go buy the vehicle you want. NHL GMs tend to be less creative and always are trying to just do everything in one trade.
Being adamant you need a center back for your $7.1M contract is how you end up needing to take on $7.8M of Josh Norris contract
