I don’t know how you’d prove it but it’s highly likely when you make an area accessible with a “free service” you will disproportionately increase the population of those who don’t have alternative transit.
I say it’s two fold. More police presence around critical infrastructure that document the crime that does occur and more people who commit crimes do to better access.
Also even if the cause of more crime is more people than that is an example of causation. The train attracts for people there for its presence cause crime to increase in the area.
