A quantity of good players, draft picks?

The only thing those things get you is other good players, reclamation projects (was elite, don’t know what happened), or picks.

Vegas got Eichel for a steal, but the rumoured offer from Calgary was Tkachuk who is an elite player. Most often elite players in their prime are traded for other elite players in their prime. Relying on BUF to make their usual trade mistakes is not a strategy.

Maybe we can overpay in FA but that creates problems later. Surely we’ve learned our lesson.
First of all, no team is ‘giving’ any other team elite talent.

We might not have the assets right now, outside of perhaps Wolf and Parekh, but we could have them in a year or two.

What I’m getting at is, you shouldn’t speak in absolutes. Whether it is through trade of free agency, all teams have the opportunity to acquire elite talent. Carolina did it less than a month ago and the same player may be on another team by the weeks end and could still be on yet another team this summer. All three moves would be outside of the draft.

Is it a guarantee Maker resigns with the Avalanche? It’s probably likely or highly likely but I’m not sure it is a guarantee. Nor do I think anyone outside of himself and his family and agent know with certainty.
