It's worked out wonderfully for Vegas in hindsight, but there was a ton of risk there and it could of easily blown up.
If we want to trade for a young PPG+ #1 center, we're going to need to eat ALOT of risk. Teams don't give these players up unless there's an issue.
I don't know if the flames should do it. I guess like everything else it comes down to price.
If you could realistically get him fairly cheap, I think you take the risk.

Completely different situations. Eichel was never regarded as an ultra-soft whiner with zero compete. He just got tired of playing for the Sabres after they opposed him over surgery.
I’d stay far, far away from Petterson. There’s a good chance that what we’ve seen the last season and a half is just who this guy is. Being stuck with a player like that for the better part of a decade at $11 mil would be a worse albatross for this franchise than Huberdeau, who at least plays hard.
