Credit to Huberdeau for reinventing his game this year becoming less of a pass first, and more of driving the net and scoring guy. But we paid for an 80–90-point player, and now he is at best a 55–60-point power forward getting 10.5M.
Colorado plays a very open speed game weaving through the neutral zone, and you can see why with Mackinnon or Makar skating pucks right into the zone make it easy for everyone including Rantanen, he isn't going to go fetch pucks being dumped in. Carolina is a lot more structured and plays a very Sutter style shot volume game.
The Flames dump pucks in, and they also play a very safe style in every zone to keep games low event.
That is why the idea of Conroy going after Rantanen is crazy and paying him 14M plus. Huska isn't going to overhaul his system to suit 1 player.
