"Wasted Season" is too narrow of a view at looking at it.
Wolf, Coronato, Zary all showed progression at the NHL level. IMO the trade for Frost and Farabee was a great move. Huberdeau has progressed to the point of being an effective NHLer and redeveloped his game (Even if he's not worth $10.5M still).
Honzek had a great camp, surprised to make the NHL roster, and an okay first AHL season for a 20 year old. Stromgren, Brzustwicz and other AHLers had good development this year as well.
Parekh, Misa, Battaglia, Gridin, Suniev, Mews, Hoskin, Jamieson, Morin, etc are all having really great development seasons in their respective junior leagues.
Would it have been great to get a top 5 or top 10 pick? Sure.
But to call it a wasted season is foolish. The team went into the season with the second lowest salary cap in the league, was expected to be bad, but due to a potential Calder performance from a Rookie goalie, and strong play from other youngsters they are battling for a playoff spot.
Lots of good things have come out of this season, and honestly the difference between picking 10th and 21st or 21st and 23rd doesn't make it a "wasted season".

Great post and par for the course from Monahammer. Same guy said Wolf would demand a trade if he didn’t get 20 games last year.
