On the DIY: my garage door sensor stopped working. Google-fu explained what I should be seeing and gave a tip on fixing. A relatively easy fix but the wires were hair width. Did what I thought I needed to do, did not work. Took apart the other side, confirmed the wiring, re-did it. Would get the green light randomly flashing when I touched wires together. But would not stay lit. Made no sense. Then I moved my fat ####ing head out of the way of the beam...solid green. F. C. U. K. Typical 10 minute job took 45 minutes.
On the car repairs, our 2012 explorer is in need of some TLC. My buddies garage quoted $4700. The son of my wife's colleague has a driveway mechanic business. $2100. Very happy about that. And yes, it was way past a DIY for me. He had the top of the engine off and was in the very guts of it. As an aside, he was a 5 year Audi mech. He said stay away from any 4 cylinders but the TDI is bulletproof and he would buy one in a second.
This kind of bounced around a bit. Sorry.
