Unlike form letters, direct messages to the Energy Minister’s inbox are logged, reviewed, and tracked. When decision-makers see a flood of emails opposing coal mining, they feel real pressure to act.

It takes just 5 minutes (in a simple two-step process) to make a real difference. Every direct email signals that Albertans won’t back down.

My letter to Brian Jean:
Dear Honourable Minister Brian Jean,
I am deeply opposed to the Alberta government's decision to lift the coal moratorium, opening the door to destructive projects like the Grassy Mountain coal mine and other new projects in pristine areas. I've outlined the reasons why below.
The referendum (non-binding) held in the Crowsnest Pass was a farce. There was no public debate. The vote did not include 2,000 part-time property owners in the Pass (who would be overwhelmingly opposed to the coal mine). The vote did not seek the opinion of 200,000 people that live in the Oldman watershed, or the vast majority of Albertans who are opposed.
Northback cannot be trusted - they are an Australian corporation, and their only duty is to their shareholders.
The experience in the Elk Valley has been a disaster. The watershed is poisoned down to Montana. A satellite view of the valley reveals a hellish landscape not unlike Mordor.
The contemplated economic benefits to the Pass are over-stated. Many studies show that boom and bust coal towns would have been better off without the coal mine.
New technologies make coal non-essential in steel making. Australia is already in a panic - the value of coal is about to go down the drain.
People forget the health problems associated with coal mining - black lung, cancer and accidental deaths. More people died from coal mining in the USA than from all wars since Vietnam.
The impacts will be devastating to wildlife, vegetation, water and agriculture.
Do not fear lawsuits by Northback. Their case is weak. Taxpayers will pay far more in environmental cleanup than from litigation.
Do the right thing! There is no credible argument to proceed.
Regards.,
