Find me a trade where 2 x 1sts from one team for a player of Hanifin’s calibre - which is a 2nd pairing/#3 guy - happened at the deadline and I’ll tip my cap to ya but I dont think it’s as basic of a miss as you’re making it seem. Hanifin did have some say in where he would end up, Vegas likely knew he was interested in extending with them which gave them leverage on price, any other team in on Hanifin likely realized it would be for a pure rental which I don’t think helps you in your assertion that Conroy made a bad deal here. As well, speaking to the fact that he made the trade 2 days prior to the deadline and with the amount of teams looking for a D you have to play a game of chicken, if you wait too long the teams you’re trying to dance with may move on and find another suitor; I could only imagine how mad you’d have been if we could only have gotten a conditional 3rd for his rights ahead of Free agency!! ‘Conny could have traded him sooner before all the other teams got their guy and got at least a 1st for him and a prospect or roster player!!’
Conny was dealt a duece, four, six, eight, ten and a jack#### hand and has done remarkably well considering everything he’s had to contend with. I don’t think knit picking at this trade and baselessly stating that he could have at least got another 1st while simultaneously discounting any reasoning behind why Conroy didn’t get full value for a guy that honestly was worth about what we got for him.
Pour your energy into Vegas going on a free fall next year and that lowly 1st becoming a lottery ticket for us!!
