Seems short sighted by the "buying" GMs to not bring guys in while they could have adjusted and settled in with no games going on, instead of doing it in the middle of what is going to be a very congested schedule to end the year.

This break is a big deal to players who aren’t in the 4 nations. They all booked vacations months in advance and are resting and recharging. That’s one of the reasons the NHLPA was so strict about replacement players for the tournament. So I can see why GMs wouldn’t want to mess with that. It would be like trading a guy over the Christmas break.
Also, a bunch of pretty important managers have been focused on the tournament, and wouldn’t want to be cut out of negotiations. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a tacit agreement around the league to take a break from trade talk.
