Why do we have to have a 4th line that's a grinder/energy line? NhL teams have historically bern built that way because of a lack of talent and goonery as a part of the game. Under the salary cap, it's about salary distribution. For the Oilers a 4th line of grinders that get 6 or 7 minutes makes sense.
But the Flames are nowhere near the cap and they don't really have any stars. Their strength as a forward corps is depth. Why not roll 4 balanced lines that can score? Why have Kerins in the AHL when he's the most productive player on the Flames and we don't scores enough goals? What is Rooney really bringing?
