Not a surprise at all. He never wanted to leave but also didn't want to come back for peanuts. A couple weeks back when at the prolonged impass, if he didn't take the more money you knew Toronto would offer, or anyone else, he was going to go back to NY.
It's like Kadri when he rejected to get traded here (Jankowski orwas it Brodie) because he didn't want to leave Toronto.
Same with Bregman, he's had plenty of interest but seems to want to stay in Houston.
Could Verdugo be a plan B for Toronto?
