And then furthermore setting all the above aside are you even sure the Chinese aren’t reacting emotionally? Is there a Beijingpuck somewhere we can check the pulse where they communicate in English? Are you fluent in Mandarin? How the F do you know they aren’t reacting?

Keep in mind it was an additional 10% on China, since they’ve already been dealing with this since the first Trump go-around. I’m not sure if it was multiplied or (obviously worse) added.
The Chinese economy is used to very high growth rates that would make other countries blush. But I think they’ve peaked - not due to Trumpism, but simply because they don’t have the population growth they used to, and immigration isn’t that attractive there.
They said they would respond, and issued a bold statement. I didn’t see Xi Jinping on TV panicking hours after. They play the long game. They know this is over in 3 years 11 months. It’s not an earth shattering event for them because they are focused on 2125, not 2025.
