I don't think it's a bad trade, I just think it's a high risk high reward trade, which is a fine strategy IMO.

With the cap going up so dramatically, and expected to continue rising steeply, cap space isn’t worth anything close to what it was a couple years ago. This deal
is weaponizing cap space by getting a good young player who is somewhat overpaid. Nobody is handing out 1sts to take on $6 mil contracts anymore.
