I understand the excitement about a big trade. Not sure if this trade is any indication of Conroy’s wizardry though. We’ve traded an expensive underperforming winger for another equally expensive underperforming winger plus a young “work-in-progress” slowly developing 1st round pick winger with two additional picks for a decent young 2/3 centre. All in all, looks like a more/less even trade with both sides hoping for players’ performance improvement in a different environment.
Flyers’ fans do not seem to be sorry about this trade and generally support it, especially losing Farabee, whom they don’t like. Hopefully, Frost will fill the spot AND want to stay in Calgary.

Joel Farabee having a $5M cap hit through 2027-28 is probably why we ended up getting a 2nd and not a first back. His play has been pretty bad for a calendar year now. I’d be excited if I was a Flames fan, you get a middle six winger and a 2/3C as reclamation projects and you don’t give up much of value. I also like it for the Flyers, it was time to move on and you add a Russian to pair with Michkov, a former first round pick who’s trajectory has pointed upwards this season and a 2nd. Flames gets the edge as of right now, but I can’t complain as I have wanted Farabee and Frost traded for some time now.
