But then part of me is starting to really think that he wants to use economic pressure to make Canada completely capitulate and give up our sovereignty. Maybe not a 51st state situation, but more of a puppet state like what Belarus is to Russia.

I do think he's testing this, which is why is important for Canada to call the bluff, even if there is short term damage, it's a wake up call to not be solely tied to the US trade-wise. But I also think he truly has no idea what the actual trade relationship is and that it is probably already as optimal as it can be for both sides. And that's why nothing will happen. But he will say it did.
And yeah he'll also say he stopped the flow of fentanyl. Again, it doesn't matter if it's true or not. Anyone who still supports this guy has decided the truth doesn't matter so you can't use what will actually happen as a predictor for anything that the guy will say and vice versa. But it's easy to predict what he says happens, that was bad because of not him, and is now good because of him, and enough people will somehow believe him so that it becomes true enough that he avoids consequences for it not being true and then does it really matter if it was true or not at that point?
