I think in a 2nd pairing role where he isn't asked to eat all the toughest minutes he can bounce back. Plus with the cap projections for the next three years that contract is nothing, $4.3M is minimal in a $113M cap world.
Dmen who are asked to play the toughest minutes on bad teams are always undervalued, and that's been his role for Buffalo. Guys are also rarely asked to play that type of role when they are under 25, but Samuelsson has being doing that.
He provides nothing offensively but with the offensive RH dmen this team has they need a stable LH guy that helps them in their own zone.
He tends to stay slightly above water defensively even though he's playing against top lines.
