If the deal works out to basically consist of Pelletier, a 2nd and a 7th for Farabee and Frost it’s hard to argue this isn’t a good deal. Farabee may slot as a league average 2nd line wing, which is what Pelletier likely becomes in Philly. Pelletier’s attitude combined with his skill set likely result in him being the best player in the deal in the long run, but Farabee has already acclimated to the league and adds something the Flames wouldn’t have for the remainder of the season that Pelletier would not. This helps them pushing for the playoffs.
This is the kind of deal the Flames can afford to make, they have a number of prospects on LW so a player like Pelletier will have to move out at some point. I doubt either of these guys add much value after a couple of years, but given the prospect barn the Flames are constructing they can afford to make some deals that meet short term needs.
