Exactly this. Conroy should continue his plan of ensuring that he does not lose assets for nothing and when he trades those assets he acquires young assets in return. That is what he has done on every trade so far and I see no evidence that he will deviate from that in the near term. Current assets over the next 15 months that I think he will likely trade for future young assets include
Expire this year (all are probably hard to trade)
Vladar (probably hard to trade)
Kuzmenko (probably hard to trade)
Rooney
Barrie
Hanley
Expire next year
Rasmus (I feel like he is likely to trade him after this season sometime)
Bean (don't think there is a market)
Miromanov (don't think there is a market)
Backlund (could be traded if they want to)
Lomberg (could be traded if they want to)
Pospisil (could easily see him being traded if there is a good deal on the table).
Conroy knows what he is doing and he knows what he has in the system. I think he knows that he realistically has at least 2 dmen in his current system that could be top 4 dmen by 2028. I think he knows that he has at least 2 wingers who are not in the NHL who could be top 9 forwards in the NHL in the next 3 years (along with Coronato, Huberdeau, Coleman, Pelletier at the NHL level now that perform that role). He has no centers in the pipeline that could realistically be top 3 line centers in the NHL (or even possibly NHL centers) in the system. But if Yegor and Zary are centers and Kadri is here long term he may be able to survive that.
I think what is in the system will inform him on what he does in the future on trades. Hunter, Mews, Parekh provide incentives to trade Rasmus. Lack of centers means that he likely keeps Kadri. Suniev, Honzek, Battaglia, Gridin, Basha, Keirns, Stromgren possibly makes Pospisil expendable.
Just the way I see it.
