Here's the thing... Saad is a better player than what normally shows up on the waiver wire. The reason he's there is that he makes $4.5M and he isn't providing value for that price. But the Flames have $20M in cap space - it is a complete non-issue for them. And since the value of cap space has declined, this is a way they can utilize some of that space: pick up a guy for free, give him some ice-time, and then trade him at 50% retained.

And if he does not work out and blocks a roster spot from one of our young players then what? Is getting a 3rd or a 4th at best for a guy worth blocking one of your young players?
