Yes but Rantanen's definition of 'significant discount' and Colorado's were/are probably very different. If you think you're worth $14M, then being willing to go to $13M is a significant discount.
Apparently COL offered him something around $11.75M which would make him the highest paid winger in the NHL (not counting Draisaitl), and he turned that down. There is no way COL is paying him more than MacKinnon.
