NHL gets all the revenue, the game continues to grow internationally, and they can fully control when and where it happens. As hockey fans, I would say he have been screwed over from the IOC and their picks of where the Olympics are being held, as well as from the NHL's ineptness at supporting anything to replace it.
I know I would have loved to have seen Gaudreau a bit more on the international stage - we certainly missed out there. Backlund would have been a fixture there too (and maybe he deserves being part of this thing now). Not to mention MacKinnon - Crosby - McDavid on Team Canada.
I get why they didn't go to some of the games, but they should have damn well created and ran their own international tourney and kept it going all of these years. Its a damn shame.

This is the biggest buck for me, personally. Not getting to see Gaudreau compete for gold alongside Tkachuk while they were Flames is unforgivable.
