The fact that Kevin Oleary is plastering his face all over every news outlet that will take him, telling Canadians to "Get used to it". Theres just too much bluster that has been continuing for longer than a single news cycle, for something not to be going on.
For the record, I don't think we're about to be invaded.
But I think people of influence are trying to sell us out of our economic interests for their own gain.
This all sounds way more conspiratory than I intended. I just don't think we can just brush it off as more of Trumps continually insane ramblings.

I think it’s more of a stroking a narcissists ego scenario. I think the premiers and the more than likely coming in federal leadership see that the US has canada over a barrel because we have put all of our eggs in one basket. They also see the leadership void coming out of ottawa and they are trying to fill that void.
I’ve read a few articles that have said if Trump doesn’t respect you he will steamroll you. He hates Trudeau. I think the rest of the afore mentioned people are trying to build relationships with him. So the damage can hopefully be minimized.
